Places You’ll See :

Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley Soda lakes at an elevation of 1745m above sea level. The lake lies to the South of Nakuru town in Kenya’s Rift Valley, and is protected by Lake Nakuru National Park. Lake Nakuru is among Kenya’s finest national Parks. Flanked by rocky escarpments, pockets of forests and at least one waterfall, the park is pretty year – round.  You can also expect to see both black and white rhinos, look past the hordes of horny baboons and see hippos or perhaps a lucky leopard. There are also about 50 rare tree-climbing lions in the park spotted several times in a week. The usual zebras, buffaloes, and Rothschild’s giraffes seal the deal. The forested area below the Flamingo Hill is a favorite lion spotting point. You should look up here, not down as you are used to in other parks –lionesses love to sleep in these trees. Leopards frequent the same area. The caves beneath Lion Hill in the park’s northeast once served as a defacto lion cub nursery. These days they are more commonly frequented by snakes, Pythons lurk in the cool forested areas early in the morning. The lake’s abundance of algae attracts the vast quantity of flamingoes that famously line the shore. Other birds also flourish in the area, as do warthogs, baboons and other large mammals. Eastern black rhinos and southern white rhinos have also been introduced.

1Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo is the largest park in the country at 20,807kms. Tsavo West is famed for the notorious ‘Man Eaters” of Tsavo. The man – eating lions preyed on the railway linesmen building the great Uganda Railway. The park offers remarkable views with a variety of habitats ranging from mountains, rivers, forests, lakes ad wooded grasslands and the famous underground water spring the Mzima Springs. Tsavo East is popular for its red soil that is very famous for the coloring effect to its elephant herds by covering themselves with the red mud and eventually becoming all red hence their name “Red elephants”.  These along with the 300 km long Yatta Plateau, the longest lava flow in the world, make for an adventure unlike any other in the Tsavo East.

2Tsavo West National Park

The name Amboseli comes from a Maasai word meaning “Salty dust” and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. The park is famous for its big game and scenic beauty with the landscape dominated by Mount Kilimanjaro. Despite the appearance, there is a continuous supply of water that gets filtered through volcanic rocks from Kilimanjaro’s melted snow. These streams flow underground creating high green areas, and converge at two clear water springs in the park. Wildlife here includes elephants, Zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, impalas, caracal, serval cats, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and buffaloes among others.  There are also over 400 species of birds including bee – eater, king fisher, African fish eagle, martial eagle, and pygmy falcon. Visitors mainly come to watch the huge herds of elephants. The bull elephants have the largest tusks in all of Kenya. You can also enjoy excellent view of Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain proudly standing at 19,344ft is sometimes referred to as the “Roof of Africa”.
